In a major action against unqualified medical practice, police in Thane district of Maharashtra have arrested three men for impersonating doctors and offering treatment without legitimate qualifications.
The arrests were made following a formal complaint by Dr. Rajkumar Sharma, a medical officer with the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC). The accused — Bhimrao Gyanba Kawade, Mohammad Shamim Siddiqui, and Mohammad Ayub Mohammad Hanif — were operating in various parts of Bhiwandi, allegedly treating patients without any recognized medical degrees.
They have been charged under section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with applicable sections of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961.
BNMC recently intensified inspections to crack down on fake medical practitioners, aiming to protect public health and ensure that only licensed professionals are allowed to offer treatment.
Officials have stated that this is part of a broader campaign to eliminate unauthorized and potentially dangerous medical practices in the region.
