A drug smuggler from Bihar was caught by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) at Charbagh railway station on Monday while attempting to smuggle nearly 11 kilograms of hashish valued at around Rs55 lakh. The accused, Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Siwan Dumka in Bihar, was traveling on the Muzaffarpur-Surat Express heading from Chhapra to Vadodara.
According to police sources, Rajesh was carrying the narcotics concealed inside a trolley bag. Acting on a tip-off from an informer, the STF team intercepted him and seized the hashish along with the accused.
Further interrogation revealed that Rajesh had been supplying hashish for a considerable time. He admitted receiving the contraband from an individual named Mahmud, who lived near his village close to Chhapra railway station. Rajesh’s role involved delivering the drug consignments on demand, often commuting by train. On this occasion, he was tasked with handing over the consignment to a youth at Vadodara station and was reportedly paid Rs50,000 per delivery.
Rajesh Kumar has been booked under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as investigations continue.
