three individuals in two separate operations in Perundurai and Karungalpalayam during the early hours of Sunday.
In the first incident, the Perundurai police, acting on a tip-off about ganja sale in Panikampalayam, intensified their patrol on Saturday night. At around 1 AM, they intercepted two men acting suspiciously and conducted a search, during which 600 grams of ganja were recovered.
The arrested have been identified as:
Bittu Kumar (29) from Bihar
Jagir Hussain (32) from West Bengal
Both were remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
In a separate incident, Karungalpalayam police arrested one man who was found smuggling ganja into Erode by train from Visakhapatnam. During routine patrol on Cauvery River Road, police intercepted the suspect and recovered 3 kilograms of ganja.
The accused was identified as:
V. Sakthivel (38), a cook from Namakkal district
“He confessed to purchasing the ganja in Visakhapatnam and traveling to Erode by train with the intent to sell,” said Inspector S. Vijayan of Karungalpalayam police station.
All three men have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are currently in custody at Coimbatore Central Prison.
Police investigations are ongoing to trace the source and wider network of distribution connected to these cases.
