deaths of two women and multiple cases of kidney failure linked to caesarean deliveries in September 2023.
On Monday, the B Division police took Salim Barejia (63), Junaid Palla (49), and Sohil Sama (26) into custody. Earlier, two women doctors at the hospital — Dr. Diana Ajudiya and Dr. Hemakshi Kotdiya — were booked for negligence in July after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) held them responsible for the tragic incidents.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Hitesh Dhandhaliya said that the hospital management failed to follow infection control protocols and standard medical procedures, which led to the deaths of 22-year-old Hiral Miyatra and 29-year-old Harshita Balas. Additionally, patients Trupti Kacha (35), Sumaiya Kachra (28), Monika Vaniya (34), and Hasina Lakha (30) suffered acute kidney injuries after their C-sections and remain dependent on dialysis while awaiting donors.
The SIT, constituted by the state government after complaints from families, found major discrepancies in nursing charts, irregular register entries, and inadequate pre- and post-operative care. Their findings concluded that all victims developed acute kidney injuries due to the hospital’s negligence.
The case has been registered under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), and 114 (abetment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
