Ernakulam police arrested Mohammad Sayed, 26, for his involvement in a Rs 17 lakh online fraud. The arrest was made at his home in Kozhikode, following the earlier apprehension of four accomplices, including Muhammad Minhaj (22) and Mittal Shifadali (27).

According to police, the fraudsters lured the victim with a fake work-from-home job offering to rate food items. Initially, they paid her small amounts to build trust. However, they later convinced her to invest money, claiming the funds were needed to continue the job. Over time, the victim deposited a total of Rs 17 lakh across nine different bank accounts controlled by the scammers.

When the victim attempted to withdraw her funds, she discovered it was all part of a scam. Realizing she had been defrauded, she immediately reported the incident to the police. The authorities have since launched an investigation into the transactions and the fraudulent network behind the scam.

The arrest of Sayed and his accomplices highlights the growing issue of online job scams, where fraudsters target vulnerable individuals with promises of easy money. The police are continuing to probe the connections between the accused and the other involved parties.
