Norwich Police Target Shoplifters, Jacob Hearle Among Arrested
Norwich police have ramped up efforts to combat shoplifting, leading to the conviction of Jacob Hearle and the arrest of three others involved in theft. The police have prioritized retail theft, calling it a “current priority” for the city.
Recent Arrests and Sentences
On November 6, a 34-year-old man was arrested in Norwich’s city center for shop theft and breaching criminal behavior orders. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison.
Police also arrested a man in his 30s on November 6 on Exchange Street for suspected shop theft. He was taken to Aylsham Police Investigation Centre for further questioning.
On November 7, a 47-year-old man was arrested and charged with eight counts of shop theft and six breaches of a criminal behavior order. He remains in custody as the case progresses.
Jacob Hearle’s Extensive Theft Spree
Jacob Hearle, 44, from Smith Close in Blofield, was charged with 25 counts of theft from Co-op stores across Norwich and surrounding areas. The thefts, which occurred between September 19 and November 1, involved stolen items like meat, coffee, alcohol, and confectionery.
In addition to the theft charges, Hearle was found with a knife, cocaine, and suspected stolen goods when arrested on November 3. He has pleaded guilty to the thefts, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of class A drugs, and money laundering.
Hearle has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on November 21 for his next hearing.

Norwich police have made it clear that tackling retail theft is a top priority. With multiple arrests in recent weeks, authorities are sending a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated in the city.
