Ottawa police have charged Sheri White, 52, and Dina Pisani, 58, in connection with a fraudulent inheritance scheme that tricked multiple victims between 2023 and 2025.
According to investigators, nine individuals were targeted after being falsely promised large inheritances—on the condition that they first pay “outstanding taxes.” Victims were assured these upfront payments would be reimbursed with substantial returns once the estate was released.
To legitimize the scam, the suspects posed as legal professionals and used forged documents. None of the victims received their money back.
The Ottawa Police Service’s financial crimes unit has laid multiple charges:
Sheri White faces:
2 counts of unauthorized use of credit card data
2 counts of obtaining by false pretence
4 counts of fraud under $5,000
2 counts of fraud over $5,000
5 counts of forgery
3 counts of identity fraud
1 count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
Dina Pisani faces:
4 counts of fraud under $5,000
2 counts of fraud over $5,000
5 counts of forgery
3 counts of identity theft
1 count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
Police urge the public to remain cautious of unsolicited inheritance offers and report any suspicious activity.
