RALEIGH, N.C. — A former Wake County detention officer, Hillary Seekins, is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly smuggling illegal drugs into a downtown Raleigh detention facility.
Seekins, 31, was arrested Wednesday morning during her shift at the John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center, according to a news release from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say Seekins attempted to bring in cocaine, K2 (synthetic marijuana), and suboxone — a Schedule III drug commonly used to treat opioid addiction.
She now faces several charges, including:
Possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver controlled substances
Possession of a controlled substance inside a jail
Three counts of criminal conspiracy to distribute controlled substances
Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe responded to the case, stating:
“As soon as these allegations were reported, we took immediate action and launched an investigation. We will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety of our community or the integrity of this agency.”
Seekins has since been terminated from her position and was placed under a $50,000 unsecured bail.
The Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed how or when the allegations first came to light, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
