NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A routine traffic stop in North Charleston on Sunday resulted in the arrest of 64-year-old Darryl Marcelus Brown, who now faces drug and firearm charges.
According to police, officers were patrolling near the Econo Lodge on Northside Drive around 4 p.m. when they observed a vehicle making an improper turn.
After initiating a stop, the driver—later identified as Brown—exited the vehicle yelling and waving his license, prompting officers to order him back into the car. Instead, Brown fled the scene, merging onto I-26 eastbound.
Officers conducted a second traffic stop shortly after, citing Brown’s erratic behavior. He and two passengers were detained.
A search of the vehicle uncovered:
60 grams of marijuana (confirmed via field test)
A handgun
Brown is prohibited from firearm possession due to previous felony convictions.
He was charged with:
Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
Unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Brown was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center and later released on a $10,000 bond.
