On Nov. 5, 2024, a Surrey RCMP officer was stabbed while attempting to arrest a suspect in connection with a vehicle theft. The incident occurred near a U-Haul storage facility located at 186 Street and 96 Avenue in Surrey. The officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital. Fortunately, the officer has since been released and is recovering.
The suspect, who allegedly stole a vehicle, was apprehended following the altercation. The RCMP have not yet disclosed his identity, and the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Richmond, RCMP have concluded a three-year investigation into illegal drug trafficking and gambling activities, resulting in multiple criminal charges against five individuals. The accused include:
- Jack Xiao, charged with importing and exporting a controlled substance and operating a gaming or betting house.
- Kuo Wong, Michael Yee, Thi Nguyen, and Jin Zhang, all charged with operating a gaming or betting house.
The charges stem from a lengthy investigation into a complex network involving drug distribution and illegal gambling operations.
