ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — An Elmira man is facing felony charges after allegedly using someone else’s identity and credit card information to post bail for another individual.
Tyler K. Blakeslee, 41, was arrested and charged with second-degree identity theft, a class E felony, following an investigation by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began on August 15, when GovPayNet reported suspicious activity involving the fraudulent use of credit card and identity information to release an inmate from Chemung County Jail. Authorities discovered that the cardholder had not given permission for the use of their personal or financial information.
Further inquiry revealed that Blakeslee used the victim’s name and card without consent. Deputies also found that he had an active warrant for his arrest in the City of Elmira.
Blakeslee was processed and issued an appearance ticket to return to City Court at a later date.
