DOTHAN, Ala. – A former secretary of the Lucy Volunteer Fire Department in Houston County has been arrested and charged after allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the department.

According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Tiffany Money is facing one count of theft of property and 23 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.

The charges stem from an internal audit completed in February 2025, which uncovered approximately $40,000 in unauthorized purchases made during Money’s tenure as secretary from 2021 through 2024.

The findings prompted a six-month investigation, during which investigators reviewed four years’ worth of financial records and bank statements from the fire department.

Deputies arrested Money following the probe, and she was released from the Houston County Jail on Monday, September 1, after posting a combined bond of $53,000.

The case is expected to proceed to court in the coming months as authorities work to recover the stolen funds.
