NORWALK, Conn. — A Norwalk woman has been arrested after her 1-year-old son nearly drowned in a kiddie pool, police said.
Carla Sanchez turned herself in to police on Tuesday, following an investigation into the July 12 incident on Vollmer Avenue.
Authorities say officers responded to the residence for a report of an unresponsive infant. Upon arrival, officers were immediately handed the child, who was described as unconscious, limp, and not breathing.
One officer began lifesaving efforts, during which the child vomited water and began to gasp for air, eventually regaining consciousness and starting to cry. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to fully recover, officials confirmed.
The investigation revealed that Sanchez, the child’s mother, had left him unattended in the small kiddie pool alongside another child at the time.
Sanchez is facing two counts of risk of injury to a minor and is scheduled to appear in court on September 9.
