GARWIN, Iowa — A 26-year-old Garwin man, Daltin Dillingham, has been arrested and charged with animal neglect resulting in serious injury or death, after law enforcement found one dead dog and two others suffering from neglect.
On the evening of August 20, authorities responded to a residence in Garwin just after 9 p.m. following reports of multiple dogs in distress. According to court documents, officers discovered a black dog deceased inside a locked kennel. A second dog was found tied to the steps, and a third was running loose in the yard.
Investigators noted that none of the animals had access to proper shelter or food. Only the dog tied to the steps had water, while the kennel held a small, dry wading pool.
Neighbors told police the dogs were often left without water, and the small dog loose in the yard was typically locked in the kennel. Authorities observed a fresh tunnel dug from inside the kennel, suggesting the dog may have escaped in search of better conditions.
Dillingham was arrested and booked into the Tama County Jail but has since posted bail. He is expected to appear in court later in September.
