YONKERS, NY – A Yonkers man was arrested within minutes of fatally shooting another man in a targeted attack late Saturday night.
Just before 10:30 p.m. on August 31, 2025, officers from the Yonkers Police Department responded to a shooting at 27 Ludlow Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old Felix Santiago, also of Yonkers, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Emergency responders rendered aid, and Santiago was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives from the Yonkers Police Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit launched an investigation, revealing that the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute. Authorities say the suspect, 26-year-old Linzell Staggers, fired approximately three shots at Santiago, striking him once in the abdomen.
Staggers fled the scene but was quickly tracked by officers using the Yonkers Police AWARE Crime Control Center, which located him via city surveillance cameras. Patrol officers from the 3rd Precinct arrested him without incident just blocks from the scene, within 15 minutes of the shooting.
A 9mm handgun with a 30-round extended magazine was recovered from his possession.
Staggers has been charged with:
Murder in the 2nd Degree
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree
Both charges are felonies.
“This quick arrest is the direct result of prompt patrol response, solid investigation, and using the technology available to us,” said Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza. “Fair warning to those thinking of committing violence in our city — we will find you and hold you accountable.”
The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
The Yonkers Police Department and city officials extended their condolences to the family and friends of Felix Santiago.
