Luis Antonio Quintanilla Arrested in Texas for Gaithersburg Homicide

39-year-old held for first-degree murder of partner Maritza Sorto

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A man wanted in connection to a domestic-related homicide in Gaithersburg has been arrested in Texas.

Luis Antonio Quintanilla, 39, is accused of fatally shooting his partner, 35-year-old Maritza Ferman Sorto.

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, at around 2:42 a.m., Montgomery County emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a shooting on Centerway Road. Officers from the 6th District and Fire Rescue responded to the home shared by Quintanilla and Sorto.

Officers found Sorto outside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation by the Major Crimes Division’s Homicide Section, Quintanilla was identified as the suspect. Authorities obtained a warrant charging him with first-degree murder.

On Monday, September 1, Quintanilla was arrested in Irving, Texas, after local police were notified by individuals aware of his wanted status. He is currently in custody awaiting extradition to Maryland.
