ORLANDO, Fla. — A 24-year-old Orange City man was arrested over the weekend after deputies say he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s Deltona home, threatened occupants with a gun, and fired a shot before fleeing the scene.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Jerron Singletary forced his way into the home through a bedroom window on Millstone Avenue while his ex-girlfriend, her sister, and a friend were inside. The women attempted to fight him off during the break-in.

During the struggle, Singletary reportedly pulled a gun, threatened the women, and fired a shot into the ceiling. He also stole a cell phone before escaping through the same window and fleeing in a vehicle.

Deputies responding to the scene were able to track the stolen phone’s location as Singletary drove from Deltona to Lake Helen, eventually abandoning the vehicle near Cassadaga Road.

A K-9 unit named Zord located the abandoned SUV and tracked Singletary through the woods to a nearby property, where he was found hiding under an RV. Deputies also recovered the firearm, partially buried beneath the RV.

Singletary was arrested without further incident by Volusia deputies and Lake Helen police. He now faces multiple felony charges, including:

Home invasion robbery with a firearm

Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

Grand theft

Criminal mischief

Fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement

Violation of probation

Authorities say he remains in custody as the investigation continues.
