Accused of failing to report income on SNAP benefits

by Sophia Bennett

WOLCOTT, NY – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 28-year-old Bianca Mumford following an investigation into welfare fraud.

Deputies allege Mumford failed to report her employment status while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Investigators say she did not disclose her job on a SNAP recertification form submitted to the Department of Social Services.

As a result, Mumford is accused of fraudulently obtaining $819 in benefits.

She has been charged with offering a false instrument for filing (first degree), welfare fraud (fifth degree), and petit larceny. Mumford was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
