BLUE LAKE, Calif. — In a significant operation, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies executed a search warrant on the morning of July 19, 2025, at a residence on Blue Lake Boulevard, as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected drug trafficking.
The operation disrupted an active drug transaction and led to the detention of several individuals. Authorities confirmed that John Edward Hames, 44, a resident of Blue Lake, was involved in the sale of methamphetamine and fentanyl. Deputies seized approximately 40.49 grams of methamphetamine and 35.23 grams of fentanyl — a powerful opioid that has become a major public health concern.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal, which means the 35 grams seized could account for over 17,000 potentially lethal doses.
Hames was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on multiple charges related to drug trafficking.
“Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting our community from the devastating effects of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs,” said a spokesperson for the department. “This operation is another step toward ensuring the safety of Humboldt County residents.”
