MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Jamia Anderson, a former principal at Life Academy, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to stealing more than $44,000 while working at the charter school.

The 37-year-old Anderson, who previously served as both the assistant principal and principal at Life Academy, was charged with theft of property. Court records reveal that between April 2021 and November 2023, Anderson issued nine checks totaling $44,667.60, which she deposited into her personal account at Navy Federal Credit Union.

As a result of her actions, Life Academy board members announced in December 2023 that a new interim principal would be taking over, following complaints from parents about academic struggles and the school’s facilities.

In addition to her 30-day jail sentence, Anderson was ordered to serve one year and 11 months of unsupervised probation and pay restitution for the stolen funds.
