The Panchkula Anti-Narcotics Cell has uncovered a significant opium trafficking ring, arresting two key suspects from Uttar Pradesh alongside a Punjab-based supplier.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, police apprehended Sunil Kumar, a drug supplier from Punjab, in the Chandimandir area on May 29. Opium was recovered from his possession. He was subsequently produced before court and remanded to police custody for two days.
During interrogation, Sunil Kumar disclosed that he obtained the opium from Hariom, son of Thakur Das, a resident of Mohammad Sadiqpur village in Bilari, Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh. Following this lead, authorities arrested Hariom on May 31.
Further investigation led to the capture of Deepak, son of Satbir Singh, also from Sambhal district, who supplied opium to Hariom. Deepak was arrested from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, on the same day.
The trio has been charged under Sections 18 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Chandimandir Police Station. On May 30, they were produced in court and remanded to four days of police custody. Investigators aim to identify additional members of the network and track the masterminds behind the operation.
“Our goal is not just to apprehend suppliers but to dismantle the entire network poisoning society,” said DCP (Crime) Amit Dahiya. “We are scrutinizing their bank accounts and mobile data to map the full extent of their operations. Assets acquired through the drug trade will be identified and seized through legal channels.”
