Kalyanpur police conducted a major raid exposing a criminal operation manipulating online cricket betting through the Champion Trophy Cricket League gaming application.
The offenders lured victims with promises of financial gains via the app, ultimately exploiting them for substantial amounts. Following a tip-off, the police raided a house near Bada Park in Ambedkarpuram, Awas Vikas-3, on Thursday evening and apprehended three suspects trying to flee.
The arrested individuals were identified as Imran and Shivam Rajawat from Jalaun district and Ashutosh alias Satyam Tiwari from Derapur Faridpur, Kanpur Dehat. The suspects confessed to enticing victims through the Cricket Buzz app and linking them to a group known as Syndicate.
The gang collected banking details from victims under the pretense of transferring money, then used this information to create fake IDs and facilitate betting on various teams through the Cricket Buzz application. They orchestrated fraudulent activities during the Champion Trophy Cricket League matches, committing extensive cyber fraud.
Police seized 30 mobile phones, three laptops, 10 bank passbooks, 12 ATM cards, and three cheque books during the raid. ACP Kalyanpur Abhishek Kumar confirmed the arrests and ongoing legal proceedings.
Two police units are actively pursuing the gang’s leader. The criminals initially allowed small wins to build trust before cheating victims out of large sums. A register found at the site contained details of Syndicate members, used to predetermine winners and losers during the betting games, the ACP added.
