LONDON – Businessman Chao Xu, 33, has pleaded guilty to 24 sexual offences, including rape, sexual assault, and voyeurism, following a disturbing investigation that revealed he drugged and filmed women in his Greenwich home over three years.
Xu was arrested in June after a woman came forward, reporting she had been raped four times after attending a networking event at his home. Police later uncovered hidden cameras throughout the property, including inside an air freshener and in bathrooms.
The Metropolitan Police said hundreds of intimate images and videos were found on Xu’s phone. The disturbing footage, which he filmed himself, became the central evidence in the case.
So far, police have identified three of his six known victims, all believed to be of Chinese heritage. Investigators fear there could be many more, as Xu’s offences may stretch back years. Several of the crimes involved substances used in veterinary care to sedate victims.
Between February 2022 and June 2025, Xu admitted to:
4 counts of rape
8 counts of assault by penetration
4 counts of sexual assault
4 counts of voyeurism
2 counts of administering a substance with intent
2 counts of operating equipment beneath clothing without consent
Two additional charges will remain on file. Xu, who moved to the UK in 2013 to study at the University of Greenwich, ran a recruitment company and hosted social events at his home to target victims.
The investigation is ongoing, with police appealing for more women to come forward. “Xu is a calculated, prolific sex offender,” said Det Ch Insp Lewis Sanderson. “He used cowardly methods – drugging women to violate them and record their trauma without consent.”
Xu is currently in custody and will be sentenced on 14 November at Woolwich Crown Court. Judge Simon Stirling stated that a “lengthy custodial sentence” is inevitable.
