The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested Rupamsinh Thakor, a truck driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident on the Hansalpur–Naroda road on Monday evening.
The victims were two women—a police constable named Viral Rabari, posted with the Gandhinagar cyber cell, and Hiral Rajgaur, a staffer at the 108 Emergency Services. They were crushed to death after their scooter was hit from behind by Thakor’s speeding truck.
Sources revealed that both women were returning from duty during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow when the accident occurred. Neither was wearing a helmet at the time.
Police traced the accused through his mobile number obtained from his employer. The tragic deaths have ignited outrage among locals, who lament the reckless driving by truck and heavy vehicle operators on city roads, especially on the Naroda–Hansalpur stretch. This route has become notorious for accidents over the past year.
Authorities are investigating the case further as calls grow louder for stricter safety measures and enforcement to prevent similar tragedies.
