HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — Hopkinsville Police arrested 49-year-old Jason James of Lafayette after he allegedly shoplifted tools from Rural King and was found in possession of methamphetamine.

Officers responded to Rural King on Fort Campbell Boulevard after reports of a shoplifter. The store manager provided surveillance footage showing James stealing two sets of tools, each worth nearly $500. The footage showed James leaving through an emergency exit and getting into a getaway vehicle.

The driver of the getaway vehicle was later arrested at the Marriott Inn, where officers recovered the stolen tools after responding to a theft of services report.

James was found in the O’Charley’s parking lot attempting to hide in a drainage tunnel but was apprehended. During a search, officers discovered 29 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe on him. James admitted to the theft and possession of meth.

He faces charges including third-degree burglary, shoplifting, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft of services.
