In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police arrested three individuals accused of defrauding people by offering fake online trading schemes promising high returns. The arrested suspects were identified as V Nithish Kumar (24) and L Chandrasekar (49) from Namakkal, and K Suresh (42) from Coimbatore.
The case began when a victim from Madurai filed a complaint on July 19, claiming he had been swindled out of Rs92 lakh after he responded to a Facebook advertisement for an online trading scheme. The advertisement promised impressive returns on investments, and the victim, convinced by the persuasive claims, transferred large sums of money to multiple bank accounts. However, when the promised returns failed to materialize, he realized he had been cheated and filed a report with the Madurai District Cyber Crime Police Station.
The investigation quickly progressed as the police traced the financial transactions and gathered evidence, leading to the identification and arrest of the three men involved in the scam. Authorities discovered that the fraudsters had been operating a network to deceive unsuspecting victims into investing large amounts of money with no intention of providing any returns.
The arrested individuals are now in police custody, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover more details about their operations and whether they were part of a larger network of fraudsters. The Tamil Nadu Police have urged the public to be cautious of such fraudulent schemes and to verify the legitimacy of online investment offers before making any financial commitments.
