In a major crackdown on a house rent scam in Bangalore, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a couple, Ahmed Ali Baig and his wife Muyeen Baig, for cheating several individuals. The duo allegedly exploited the trust of both landlords and tenants by subletting rented flats to unsuspecting people without the owners’ knowledge, thus defrauding both parties involved.
The scam, which was first reported earlier this year, came to light when victims filed complaints in the Hennur and Banaswadi police stations, claiming they were deceived by the couple. The CCB took over the investigation after protests from the victims, who had lost significant amounts of money to the scam.
According to the authorities, the couple rented multiple flats from landlords and then sublet them to others at higher rates, pocketing the difference. Investigations have revealed that this was not an isolated case, and more people are suspected to be involved in the operation.
As of now, efforts are underway to apprehend the other suspects linked to this fraudulent scheme. The couple’s arrest has provided some relief to the victims, but the police are continuing to track down other individuals who may have been involved in facilitating the scam.
