Toronto police announced the results of Project Warden, an ongoing auto theft investigation led by 53 Division that began in August 2024. The investigation, headed by Detective Dan Kraehling and Inspector Heather Nichols, has so far led to two arrests, 176 charges, and the discovery of fraudulent schemes totaling approximately $2.18 million.
The suspects, Harris Bocknek, 35, of Barrie, and Fadi Zeto, 32, of Mississauga, were employed at a Toronto car dealership where they allegedly exploited their positions to sell stolen vehicles under the pretense of legitimate used car sales. Using VIN alterations and doctored Carfax reports, they reportedly deceived customers, selling them stolen cars that appeared to be legitimate purchases.
During late October, police executed multiple search warrants at various locations, seizing two suspected re-vinned vehicles and documentation tied to the fraud. Authorities linked the suspects to 22 fraudulent vehicle sales.
Bocknek faces 22 counts each of forgery, fraud, and document alteration, among other charges. He is set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in December. Zeto, facing similar charges, appeared in court in October.
Detective Kraehling urges anyone who recognizes Zeto or purchased a vehicle from him to contact 53 Division, as additional victims may exist.
