A 59-year-old Chicago man, Jaime Santiago, was arrested on multiple charges following a police pursuit in Dixon, Illinois.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on August 24 around 9:40 p.m. A deputy assisting the Dixon Police Department spotted a vehicle that had fled from police near Dixon High School on N. Peoria Avenue. The deputy attempted to stop the car, which was traveling southbound at 55 mph in a 30 mph zone.

During the pursuit, the vehicle disregarded stop signs at Peoria Avenue’s intersections with Second and Third Streets, ultimately colliding with another car at Peoria and Third Street. A search of Santiago’s vehicle uncovered a firearm.

Jaime Santiago was taken into custody and charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (Class 4 felony), aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer (Class 4 felony), possession of a firearm and ammunition without a FOID card (Class A misdemeanors), and several traffic-related petty offenses including operating an uninsured vehicle, no valid driver’s license, speeding, and improper lighting.

Following the Illinois SAFE-T Act, Santiago was released from custody under pretrial conditions.
