A couple posing as senior IAS officers has been arrested by Visakhapatnam Police for allegedly running a fraud racket that duped multiple people across Andhra Pradesh by promising government jobs and housing.
The accused, Bhagya Rekha, also known as Amrutha, and her husband, Mannendora Chandrasekhar, are residents of Vangaveti. The duo impersonated high-ranking officials—such as the GVMC Commissioner and Joint Collector—to build credibility and scam their victims.
Using forged identification cards and fake documents, they lured people with false promises of employment and allocation of TIDCO houses. In one case, a victim was conned out of Rs80,000 in March 2024 for a supposed housing allotment.
The fraud extended across Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts. A special police task force eventually tracked and arrested the couple in Prakasam district as they attempted to flee. They have since been remanded to 15 days in Visakhapatnam Central Jail.
Further investigation revealed other instances of fraud, including:
Rs1,00,000 swindled from another victim
Fraudulent purchase of clothing worth Rs1,00,000
The MVP Police have registered multiple cases, and inquiries are ongoing to identify additional victims and recover stolen money.
