Greenville, NC – A validated gang member from Greenville has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple drug and firearm charges.

On February 18, Leonard Williams Jr., 36, admitted to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. The charges stem from an investigation by the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force and the FBI.

According to court documents and a release to News 12, the task force conducted several controlled purchases of cocaine from Williams Jr. during July and August 2024. A subsequent search of his Ward Street residence uncovered more than an ounce of cocaine and a loaded .40 caliber handgun in his bedroom.

Williams Jr. is a confirmed member of the 83 set of the Crips street gang, authorities said. He also has a prior 2016 conviction for conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.

This case is part of a broader Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug trafficking and gang operations.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo.
