HESPERIA, CA – August 5, 2025 — A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and charged with extortion and soliciting a bribe following an investigation into alleged on-duty misconduct.
Cameron Romo, 27, of Rialto, was taken into custody on August 5 by the department’s Specialized Investigations Division after a warrant was issued by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office. He was booked into the Central Detention Center, with bail set at $90,000.
Citizen Complaint Led to Arrest
The investigation began in June 2024 after a citizen complaint alleged that Romo committed crimes while on duty as a deputy at the Hesperia Station. He was immediately placed on administrative leave as the department launched a deeper inquiry.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators uncovered evidence that Romo had engaged in multiple illegal acts while on duty, including soliciting a bribe and extortion. The findings were submitted to the DA’s Office, which filed felony charges on August 4, 2025, leading to Romo’s arrest the following day.
Sheriff Responds to Arrest
San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Shannon Dicus expressed disappointment in Romo’s conduct:
“It is unfortunate that a Deputy Sheriff would engage in this type of behavior. I am proud of all the investigators involved in bringing this case to the District Attorney’s Office so he can be held accountable.”
