PARSIPPANY, NJ — Maloy Amador, 43, of Morris County, was arrested and charged following an armed confrontation with federal officers at his home on August 13, 2025. Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced the charges, which include attempted murder of a federal officer, multiple firearms offenses, and drug distribution.
Amador is charged with attempted murder of a federal officer, discharging a firearm during a violent crime, possession of firearms as a convicted felon, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge José R. Almonte on August 14, 2025, and remains detained pending further court proceedings.
The incident unfolded when federal agents executed a search warrant related to narcotics and firearms at Amador’s Parsippany residence. Upon entry, Amador opened fire, sparking a prolonged gunfight. Though wounded in the arm, he continued firing before surrendering. No officers were injured, but bullet fragments were found lodged in a federal officer’s vest.
Authorities recovered multiple firearms, including assault rifles, and cocaine quantities consistent with distribution intent.
If convicted, Amador could face up to 20 years for attempted murder, 10 years to life for firearm offenses, 15 years for illegal possession of firearms, and 20 years for drug distribution, along with significant fines.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a coordinated effort by federal and local agencies to combat violent crime and illegal arms trafficking. Participating agencies include the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, New Jersey State Police, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin Levin and Javon Henry are prosecuting the case. Amador is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
