In a major breakthrough, the Gharinda police on Monday arrested two drug peddlers with 2 kg of heroin near the Atalgarh border village.

The accused were identified as:

Karamjit Singh alias Karma, a resident of Rajatal border village

Mahan Singh alias Mannu, hailing from Burj village in Tarn Taran

The two were apprehended while traveling on a motorcycle (PB02-CM-7804). Along with the contraband, the police also impounded their bike. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh stated that the duo has close links with Pakistan-based drug traffickers and were involved in cross-border heroin smuggling using drones. After receiving a tip-off, the police intercepted them near the defense drain along the border.

The heroin was seized during the search, and authorities are now probing their backward and forward linkages to uncover the full extent of the drug network. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
