
PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) – Two women have been arrested in connection with alleged absentee voter fraud tied to the upcoming municipal election in Phenix City.
Thalia Hardin and Valerie Carter face multiple charges related to absentee voting violations, including alleged illegal ballot harvesting.
According to Phenix City Police, the investigation began after the City Clerk’s Office flagged suspicious absentee ballot applications. During the investigation, both women reportedly told authorities they were volunteering for District 3 city council candidate Jamar Gayles.
Authorities have not released specifics on the fraudulent activities, but stated that the Alabama Secretary of State and the Russell County District Attorney’s Office were involved in reviewing the evidence and pursuing charges.
Both suspects were taken into custody without incident. Police say the investigation is ongoing and further developments are expected.
