Brian Vines and Wife Indicted for Fake Legal Services Scam

Allegedly targeted inmate’s father with phony lawyer claims

by Sophia Bennett

Brian Vines, 49, and his wife Shayna O’Leary have been indicted by a Plymouth County grand jury for their involvement in an alleged scheme offering fraudulent legal services in exchange for money. The Plymouth County District Attorney, Tim Cruz, announced the charges on Tuesday.

Vines, currently incarcerated at Old Colony Correctional Facility, faces counts of larceny by false pretense over $250 and conspiracy. O’Leary has been charged with the unauthorized practice of law.

According to prosecutors, Vines initiated the scheme while behind bars, targeting the elderly father of a fellow inmate. He allegedly claimed that his wife, Shayna O’Leary, was a skilled criminal attorney who could help reduce the inmate’s prison sentence. The unsuspecting man paid fees for these supposed legal services, which authorities say were entirely fabricated.

The indictment underscores the couple’s alleged deception, and the charges reflect the severity of preying on vulnerable individuals, particularly in a legal context. The case will proceed in Plymouth County court as the investigation continues.
