The Commissionerate Police in Cuttack have arrested two more individuals, Gopi alias Rajnikant Behera and D. Shiv Kumar Dora, from the Dhauli area in Bhubaneswar, in connection with a trafficking case involving a minor girl forced into immoral activities.
The minor was rescued on November 9 near the Madhupatna police station area. Based on her statement, an FIR was registered on November 23 at Madhupatna police station. Prior to this, four suspects had already been apprehended.
Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena said, “A minor girl was rescued from Madhupatna police limits. Following her counseling, she filed an FIR on November 23. Based on her statement and counseling report, we registered a case. We initially arrested four individuals and recently apprehended two more. These accused acted as pimps or touts, forcing the victim into prostitution.”
Police suspect the involvement of a larger organized trafficking racket involving Bangladeshi nationals and individuals from West Bengal. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend others connected with the racket.
“We have arrested six individuals so far, and others from West Bengal and beyond will also be arrested. For the victim’s repatriation, we have informed the Government of India, which has communicated with the High Commission. The repatriation process is underway. We are verifying the accused’s criminal backgrounds and will share details with the court,” added DCP Meena.
The minor victim remains under police protection in Cuttack, with arrangements being made for her safe return to Bangladesh.
