GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) — A Greenville man, Jeffrey Rouse Jr., 28, has been charged with elder exploitation following a three-month investigation by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.
The probe began after the FBI received a tip regarding unlawful taking of funds from an elderly family member. Authorities eventually located and arrested Rouse in Jacksonville.
He faces charges including elder exploitation, 27 counts of felony identity theft, and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. Additionally, Farmville police charged him with failing to work after being paid.
Rouse is currently held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active, and more charges may be forthcoming.
