A Leicester man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison after Leicestershire Police discovered a storage unit filled with stolen goods valued at over £350,000. The discovery came after the arrest of 35-year-old James Ward, whose connection to the thefts triggered a broader investigation across the county.

In 2022, during a routine search following Ward’s arrest, police found a key to a storage unit in the Northfields area of Leicester. When they accessed the unit, they uncovered an array of stolen items, including furniture, electronics, and power tools. This led officers to link Ward to a string of burglaries spanning several months, from July 2022 to March 2023.

Further inquiries revealed that Ward had coordinated with Lance Ball, 32, of Wigston, who was also arrested in connection with the thefts. Both men were charged with handling stolen goods. While Ward pleaded guilty to the charges at Leicester Crown Court, Ball admitted his involvement and received a 24-month suspended sentence.

Police Statement
PC Eliot Bates, who led the investigation, commented on the case, highlighting the serious impact of the thefts, particularly the stolen power tools that affected the livelihood of local tradespeople. He expressed hope that the sentencing of Ward would provide reassurance to the public, showing that the authorities are committed to bringing those responsible for such crimes to justice.

The investigation has shed light on a series of burglaries in storage units across Leicester, and the sentences aim to send a clear message about the consequences of such criminal activities.
