MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KFVS) — Two men have been arrested following an investigation into a deadly shooting that occurred in Mount Vernon on July 27, leaving two people dead and five others injured.
On Wednesday, August 6, investigators served search warrants at two locations—one in Mount Vernon and another in Wayne City—as part of the investigation.
Davonta Body, 25, of Mount Vernon, was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Dequan Hopkins, 29, of Wayne City, faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat offender.
The first warrant was executed in the 700 block of S. 18th Street in Mt. Vernon by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s High Risk Team, securing the property before investigators from the Mount Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and Illinois State Police began their search.
A second warrant was then carried out at a residence on Lappin Avenue in Wayne City, with assistance from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities confirmed that the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation related to the tragic shooting that took place in late July.
