Eight Arrested in Mityana Mobile Money Robbery – Henry Mugwanya Targeted

Suspects confess to $14 million robbery of mobile money agent

Police arrest eight over attack, robbery of Mityana mobile money agentPolice in Mityana have arrested eight suspects in connection with a violent robbery that targeted Henry Mugwanya, a mobile money and bank agent. The robbery, which occurred on October 10, 2024, in Buswabulongo cell, Busimbi Division, Mityana municipality, resulted in the theft of goods worth shs14 million. Mugwanya, 37, was attacked by armed assailants while returning home in his vehicle.

Wamala region police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, reported that the attackers, armed with pangas and sticks, ambushed Mugwanya and his wife as they drove home from work. The suspects, believed to have used a vehicle to block Mugwanya’s car on a narrow road, threatened to kill him unless he complied with their demands. During the attack, they stole six posh machines, two mobile phones, and several other valuable items, including a Samsung Galaxy A15, valued in total at shs14 million.

Following the robbery, the police launched an investigation and opened a case of aggravated robbery at Mityana Police Station. In a swift operation, police arrested the suspects, who later confessed to their involvement in the robbery.

The suspects arrested include Brian Mubiru (alias Kagawa/David), Musa Jjuko, Hakim Mugahi (aka Kim), Yahaya Lukwago (alias Musiramu), Rogers Kibuule, Innocent Tumwekwase (alias CMI), Matovu Malik, and Dennis Kawooya.

During the operation, police recovered several stolen items, including a Samsung Galaxy A14, the Toyota Wish vehicle (registration number UBB 560K) used in the robbery, two motorcycles, police gear, and other evidence such as pangas, marijuana, and military headgear.

Kawala confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with police working to gather additional information and identify any other individuals involved in the crime.
