The Delhi Police have arrested 38-year-old builder Varun Puri for allegedly defrauding 485 flat buyers in Gurugram of over Rs300 crore. Puri, who had been on the run and declared a proclaimed offender, was apprehended in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on October 25.
Puri, along with his brother Vikram and father Raman, operated Universal Buildwell Private Limited, the company behind the Universal Aura project in Sector-92, Gurugram. The company had collected more than Rs300 crore from buyers but failed to deliver the promised flats, leading to widespread complaints across the Delhi-NCR region.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered five cases against the company. A reward of Rs1 lakh was announced for information leading to the arrest of Varun Puri, his brother, and their father. After months of surveillance, a police team led by Inspectors Manender Singh, Neeraj Kumar, and Sundeep Yadav, under ACP Sanjay Dutt’s supervision, successfully located and arrested Puri in Indore.
Puri’s arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the massive real estate fraud case.
