Rome Party Shootings Leave Three Injured; Two Arrested for Obstruction
ROME, Ga. – Two separate shootings linked to weekend parties in Rome left three people injured and led to two arrests, according to local law enforcement.
The first incident unfolded around 2:15 a.m. Sunday on Hardy Avenue, where police responded to a large gathering involving an estimated 100 people. The residence, already known for disturbances, turned chaotic when multiple gunshots rang out as officers were departing the scene.
Three individuals sustained injuries — two women were shot in the leg, while a third person was found near Grover Street with unspecified wounds. Emergency personnel provided aid, including the application of tourniquets, before transporting the victims to a nearby hospital.
During the investigation, the party’s host, Marvin Blackburn, allegedly resisted officer commands and became combative. Police say they deployed a Taser to gain control. Blackburn now faces several charges, including felony obstruction, battery on a police officer, and maintaining a disorderly house.
Another attendee, Sammya Sewell, was arrested for interfering with police efforts at the scene. She is charged with misdemeanor obstruction.
The second incident occurred Saturday night at a back-to-school party on East 11th Street. While no injuries were reported, police recovered a number of items from the scene, including a rifle casing, suggesting gunfire had taken place.
Authorities continue to investigate both shootings and are urging residents to exercise caution at large gatherings.
