Bradford Gille, 42, of Afton, Michigan, is facing serious charges including terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder after a mass stabbing at a Walmart in Traverse City on Saturday.
Grand Traverse County Sheriff Mike Shea confirmed Gille’s identity during a press conference Sunday. According to authorities, Gille used a 3.5-inch folding knife to carry out the attack. He has a documented history of assault and substance abuse offenses.
Prosecutor Noelle Moeggenberg said her office expects to authorize formal charges on Monday.
The attack left 11 victims injured, 10 of whom remain hospitalized at Munson Medical Center. One victim has since been discharged. Among the injured is a Walmart employee. Victims range in age from 29 to 84.
The sheriff praised several brave bystanders who confronted and restrained Gille until law enforcement arrived. “What they did is amazing,” Shea said, while urging the media to respect their privacy.
The investigation is ongoing.
