Suspect allegedly used stolen card after assault

by Sophia Bennett

NEWARK, DE — A New Castle man, Erik Yancey (30), has been arrested in connection with a strong-arm robbery that took place outside Moon Spa on Capitol Trail just after midnight on July 24, 2025, according to the Delaware State Police.

Authorities say the victim was attempting to enter his vehicle when a male suspect—later identified as Yancey—allegedly opened the driver’s side door and demanded the victim’s belongings, implying he was armed by wrapping his hand in cloth and threatening to shoot. The suspect then punched the victim and fled the scene with stolen property. The victim sustained minor injuries and later called police from a nearby business.

Investigators traced the use of the victim’s stolen credit card to Wilmington, which helped them identify Yancey as the suspect. He was arrested without incident on July 25 in Wilmington.

Yancey faces the following charges:

Robbery in the First Degree (Felony)

Unlawful Use of a Payment Card under $1,500

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and is being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $51,000 cash bail.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
