San Antonio City Council District 8 member Ivalis Meza Gonzalez was arrested late Thursday night on a charge of driving while intoxicated (DWI), according to court documents obtained by KSAT.
The incident occurred after a San Antonio police officer pulled Gonzalez over around 11 p.m. on Interstate 10 near Hildebrand Road. The officer noticed Gonzalez was driving below the speed limit and failing to maintain her lane.
When questioned about alcohol consumption, Gonzalez denied drinking but admitted she had been at the Centre Club downtown. During a sobriety test, the officer observed that Gonzalez had watery, glossy eyes, a moderate odor of intoxicants, and slurred speech.
Gonzalez refused to provide a breath or blood sample when requested by the officer. She was taken into custody and booked into the Bexar County Jail early Friday morning on a $1,000 bond, later being released.
This arrest marks Gonzalez’s second DWI incident; her first was in June 2010, also in Bexar County. Court footage showed Gonzalez appearing in magistrate’s court Friday morning, shackled and limping.
The case is ongoing.
