OSWEGO, IL — The Oswegoland Park District is beginning its search for a new executive director after Tom Betsinger resigned amid serious criminal charges.

Betsinger, 50, a Montgomery resident, was arrested on July 13 by Yorkville police following an incident in which he allegedly tried to run over a man in the parking lot of BrightFarms Greenhouse. Authorities say the suspect then crashed into two parked cars and fled the scene. The victim stated he had no prior relationship with Betsinger.

According to court documents, Betsinger faces multiple felony charges including aggravated battery, attempted reckless homicide, DUI, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and failure to notify the owner of property damage.

Hired in December 2023, Betsinger had been serving as the executive director of the Oswegoland Park District until his resignation was formally accepted on Friday. In response, the Park District issued a statement affirming its commitment to integrity, safety, and transparency within the community.

The Board appointed Chad Feldotto, the Director of Parks and Planning, as deputy executive director on July 17. Betsinger had been on paid administrative leave since the incident.

As of Friday, the Park District’s website still listed Betsinger as executive director. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 8 before Judge Jody Gleason.
