The Crime Branch on Friday arrested a drug peddler near a private bank in MP Nagar Zone-1, seizing 3.88 kilograms of ganja (cannabis) valued at approximately Rs. 70,000.

The accused, identified as 32-year-old Ganesh Kuchbandiya from Obedullaganj in Raisen district, was caught sitting near an open ground in front of the bank carrying a black and blue backpack. Acting on a police tip-off, the Crime Branch team swiftly apprehended him.

During a search, officers found two brown tape-wrapped packets containing the seized cannabis. Ganesh confirmed ownership of the bag and the contraband.

He has been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further interrogation is underway to trace the source and distribution network of the drugs.

According to Additional DCP Shailendra Singh Chouhan, this year alone, the Crime Branch has seized around 2.5 quintals of ganja and registered 45 related cases.
