LONG BEACH, Calif. — Police have arrested 34-year-old Gabriel Vigil of Long Beach on suspicion of sexually abusing a teenage girl, and authorities believe there may be more victims.
Vigil, a substitute staff member and coach at Cabrillo High School, was taken into custody Thursday morning at his home near Pacific Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The investigation began earlier this month when a school staff member reported that a female student had been sexually assaulted off campus by a substitute employee. Detectives gathered evidence and quickly identified Vigil as the suspect.
He was booked into jail on multiple felony charges, including:
One count of statutory rape
One count of arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes
One count of contacting a minor to commit a felony
Vigil’s bail was set at $100,000.
Investigators are encouraging anyone with information or who may have had contact with Vigil to come forward, as additional victims are suspected.
This is an ongoing investigation.
