ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) – A 59-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a man found in the St. Joseph River last week.
Authorities say Michael Hawkins Jr. was initially arrested on drug-related charges on July 18, just one day after 50-year-old Anthony Null’s body was discovered in the river.
The body was found Thursday, July 17, in Elkhart, and the coroner later confirmed Null died from a gunshot wound. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
Now, Hawkins is facing a murder charge, and the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office confirms that formal charges will be filed Friday.
Hawkins’ initial court appearance in Elkhart Circuit Court is scheduled for Thursday, July 31.
